July Literacy Lesson Plans

Kick off the dog days of summer with the June and July Adapted Piece Book Set that will bring your storytime books to life! Students can practice their sequencing and comprehension skills through interactive pieces for children’s titles, including “Red, White, and Boom,” “Have You Filled a Bucket?” and “Mister Seahorse.” Watch one of the books in action above!

Nothing says refreshing in the summer like watermelon, and The Watermelon Seed by Greg Pizzoli is perfect for that! But, first, teach students about the power of imagination with the Watermelon Seed Book Companion

This set gives you everything you need to make this story come to life for students with engaging and interactive adapted book pieces. Then, once the story is finished, you can keep the excitement going with done-for-you craftivities, differentiated worksheets, and task boxes. And the best part? The easy, peasy visual recipe for watermelon slush, of course!

Keep the watermelon fun rolling during small group instruction with the Watermelon Lifecycle Adapted Books!

July Digital Lesson Ideas

Get digital with our Digital Activities! Made specifically for Google Slides; there are themed activities for just about any theme across every academic area. These were made with distance learning in mind but have become a hit with students as we return to in-person class.

Allow students to practice their basic 2D shapes, summer style, with the Digital Hamburger Shapes. This sorting activity is the perfect fit as a lesson extension or free time filler!

Keep the BBQ theme alive with the Build a Hot Dog Digital Activity. Students will work on identical matching skills while building a digital hot dog. One of our friends over in the TpT shop says, “This is such a fun resource to practice following directions!”.

Harp on the importance of summer safety with the Digital Firework Safety Activity. This social story includes comprehension questions that will drive home this must-have topic.

P.S. The 4th of July Adapted Reader makes a great small-group extension lesson for all of these activities. And we have huge news! It now comes in printable and digital formats so that you can mix up your routine and keep literacy learning interesting.
