Guided Math Apps for Special Ed

When it comes to Guided Math and creating engaging, fun centers… our iPad station is a fan favorite.

Thanks to the App Store and a huge variety of free and cheap math apps, I am able to not only differentiate app usage in my classroom, but find apps that are skill specific for each of my students.

Nothing gets better than that!

Two years ago, my class won a grant to purchase 4 classroom iPads and we’ve never. looked. back. You can read a little more about that here.

So every couple of weeks, I check out the app store for new apps to add to our classroom iPads and spice up our learning. While we love that UniqueLearning can be utilized on iPads too, it’s not enough most days.

Here are a few math apps that we use on the regular.

This is not a sponsored post. I’m simply sharing my favorite math-themed apps that I have used in my self contained special needs classroom, or new apps that I’ve discovered to use in the coming weeks. Click any of the images or links to take you right to the iTunes store to download an app.

NEW APPS WE WILL BE TRYING OUT

1 // Moose Math by Duck Duck Moose

2 // Making 10 Plus

3 // Splash Math
I have used this app in the past, but not with my current students. I plan on introducing it to them very soon!

APPS WE ALREADY LOVE AND USE

4 // Tiny Hands Apps
I’ve professed my love to Tiny Hands apps before when I shared 10 apps I love, and since then… the app company has come out with so many other great app options that I’m looking forward to implementing into our Guided Math centers.

5 // Everyday Mathematics® by McGraw-Hill

You probably know McGraw-Hill as a huge educational company that has and still does provide many textbooks and curriculum for districts… well they also have a pretty good selection of apps in the iTunes App Store.

There are a great variety of apps in their store that cover a huge array of ability levels and grade levels. You will have no problem meeting the needs of all of your students with their apps.
6 // Quick Clocks – Telling Time
The multiple game modes within this app are great, and offer a good bit of differentiation for your classroom.

They also have a good amount of other apps in the App Store, including Quick Math which is also a classroom favorite.
7 // TouchTronic Place Value Fish
You can read about the TouchTronic apps in a blog post here. These apps are great, interactive, and the numbers are great for fine motor practice while practicing place value.

You can find the TouchTronic Number Set here.
8 // TouchTronic 123’s
You can read about the TouchTronic apps in a blog post here. These apps are great, interactive, and the numbers are great for fine motor practice while practicing numbers recognition.
