Books Teachers Love - December

Welcome back for another great month of read alouds! This month we are all talking about books for December, giving you a wide range of topics to read about with your students.
One of my favorite books to read during December is always Mooseltoe. In all honesty, I didn't know about this book until last winter, but it quickly became one of my favorites. His moose-stache is just so cute!

If you don't own this book yet, you can grab this book here:

Before reading the story first, I kind of set the stage with a fun 120-chart activity:
This activity comes with a pre-timed powerpoint, but I just printed the slides 6 to a page and cut them out to use as cards.

This allowed me to create a center for this activity.
It worked really well and once my students realized that we were getting ready to read Mooseltoe, they got so excited!

I love this story so much because of the pictures inside of the book. Just to give you a little sample if you've never read this book before:
Which brings me to the activity after the story:
I saw this finished activity in the first grade hallway last school year and just had to add it to my toolbox this holiday season. This resource includes the pattern you need to create the craftivity, as well as a picture step-by-step guide to putting your craftivity together.
He turns out REALLY big! I might have my students add on a writing response sheet to incorporate writing into this math, turned reading activity. Triple threat, my friends!

  1. I just added this to my Scholastic shopping cart last night in anticipation of another amazing activity from you. :) Can't wait for this adorable book to arrive!

  2. I love this book! I wish I taught math...I'll be sharing the idea with my partner for sure!

  3. I love this craft! I think it's so important to do a montly craft with the students because it builds the classroom family! They love doing them together and it gives them something to remember. You're the best!
